Indian high profile openers Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag opened superbly with wide array of shots, as Sehwag outscored Sachin till the eighth over. Sehwag got out at 35 of 26 balls playing to the wicket keeper. Sachin was then joined by Gautam Gambhir who then showed aggression in the beginning and then the ‘Maestro’ Sachin started making displaying his superb shots allover the park including 5 sixes on the way to his magnificient 47th one day international century. Just after scoring his half century. Gambhir – Sachin partnership was worth 134 runs. Yuvraj joined Sachin and they both played good strokes right away, on the 38th over Sachin got out mistiming a shot and got out at 120 of 115 balls. Despite Yuvraj Singh’s half century wickets started falling and India got allout at 338 runs thanks to the 5 wicket effort of fast medium bowler Tim Bresnan.

England Innings:

England started even better than India with the openers Andrew Strauss and Kevin Pietersen smashing all Indian bowlers into submission, before Kevin got out the score read 68 in 9.3 overs, the England captain Andrew Strauss was joined for a brief period by Jonathan Trott who too kept the tempo with his captain and got out to a very good ball from Piyush Chawla. Ian Bell joined his captain and the duo went playing very attacking shots till the 42nd over. Now it looked as if England would annihilate Indian score of 338 by the 48th over. Strauss opted for the 3rd powerplay and the situation changed with Zaheer Khan’s 3 quick wickets. Well set Ian Bell got out first scoring 69 of 71 balls, after sharing 170 runs with his skipper, then immediately Strauss too got out 158 of 145 balls to Zaheer and later Collingwood also joined them in the dressing room. With regular wickets England looked lost and in the last 2 overs 27 runs were required, Piyush Chawla bowled well till then but was smacked for 2 sixes in the penultimate over and now just 14 of the last over was required. Munaf Patel ‘s over contained a six by tailender Ajmal Shehzad and the match ended in a Tie with single of the last ball.
